Lim Pei Sien is known for her aptitude to collaborate well with other musicians. She has performed in recitals and music festivals in Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Austria and the USA as a chamber musician as well as a soloist.
Born and raised in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Pei Sien currently resides in Brunei Darussalam with her family. She is a piano tutor and an accompanist at Jerudong International School. She has been involved in the school’s musical productions as a rehearsal pianist as well as a pianist in the pit band. She performs frequently in school and in concerts organized by the Brunei Music Society. As a clinician, she recently presented a virtual seminar on How to Make Practising Music Fun and Engaging for Children to a group of instrumental teachers.
Pei Sien was an Assistant Professor at UCSI University from 2005 – 2013. She was a former staff accompanist of Interlochen Arts Camp, Michigan and American Institute of Musical Studies, Graz.
Under the guidance of Dr. James Miltenberger and Dr. Connie Arrau Sturm, Pei Sien received her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from West Virginia University. She was granted scholarships and graduate assistantships throughout her studies at WVU. Pei Sien also won numerous accolades from WVU, notably the distinguished Higher Education Resource Fund Top-Off Fellowship and the Outstanding Music Student Award. Her former tutors were Ng Mei Fong, Tan Hui Ming and Lau Yin Ming.
Malaysian pianist, conductor and music educator Dr. Bernard Tan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Michigan, USA, where he studied under the esteemed Martin Katz. He also earned his Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom.
A versatile and award-winning pianist, Bernard has received numerous accolades, including the John Ireland Prize, Hester Dickson Prize, and the Birmingham Town Hall Symphony Hall Prize, including the Best Musical Direction Award at the 20th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards as a conductor.
As a pianist, he was praised by British pianist Robin Bowman for his “admirable physiological setup,” reflecting his commitment to technique as the foundation of expressive performance. Malaysian pianist Su-yen Chee has established herself both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has given solo and collaborative recitals in the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. She has performed concertos with the HKAPA Symphony Orchestra and the Selangor Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also premiered many works of contemporary Malaysian composers and participated in the Soundbridge Contemporary Festival and Free Hand Contemporary Piano Festival. Recent solo performances include playing in the Academy Chopin Piano Festival 2025 in Hong Kong.
Besides performing, she dedicates her time to teaching. Her students have won prizes in local and regional competitions and she is also sought after as an adjudicator, most recently for the MIA Young Musician Competition, UCSI University International Piano Festival and Competition 2014-2024 , Virtual International Music Competition 2020 and E-Artium Piano Competition 2021-2025. As an educator, she has been invited to give masterclasses and seminars in the region.
Su-yen is a graduate of Indiana University (Bloomington) and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she completed her MMus and BMus (1st class honours) degrees respectively. Her major teachers include Karen Shaw, Michel Block and Gabriel Kwok. Currently, Su-yen is an adjunct lecturer at UCSI University, ASWARA and maintains a private studio.
Born in Taiwan, I-Hsuan started her musical journey at the age of 6. After graduating from the University of Taipei under the tutelage of Professor Pei-Chun Liao, I-Hsuan pursued her music education at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Professors Julian Jacobson and Philip Martin. She has completed her Master’s Degree in Music with distinction and Conservatoire’s flagship Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in professional piano performance.
I-Hsuan has also participated in many competitions, and successes include first prize in Taiwan Music Competition in Hsinchu (2009), top awards in the National Student Music Competition in Taiwan, as a finalist in Donohoe Gold Medal from UK(2017), and Regional winner of Osaka International Music Competition in Kuala Lumpur(2018).
I-Hsuan is now settled down in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is one of faculty in Bentley Music Academy and Malaysia Institute of Arts.
Dr Joanne Yeoh obtained a First Class Honours in her Degree from the University of
Middlesex, United Kingdom in 1998, majoring in both piano and violin. Upon completing
her degree course, she was awarded a Luther and Ernest Gaunt Scholarship for Strings
to study at the University of Leeds. During her study there, she was also chosen to
receive a Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarship, in association with British
Council and the University of Leeds to pursue a Masters in Music Performance (MMUS)
degree. In 2009, Joanne completed her PhD studies with Heriot Watt University, United
Kingdom, with a focus on music and consumer behaviour.
While studying in the UK, she participated in the Aberswyth Music Festival, Wales, the
Edinburgh Summer Festival and the Aberdeen Music Festival in Scotland. She also
played an active role with the Sorrel Quartet during the Leeds Annual Music Festival.
Since returning to Malaysia, Joanne has participated in the Asian Youth Orchestra,
travelling to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, Korea and Hong Kong, playing with
Beaux Arts Trio and Cho-Liang Lin. Her international endeavours include performing
alongside HK superstar Jacky Cheung covering over 40 concerts worldwide in 2002/03;
David Tao in his Soul Power Tour 2003, Alan Tam in 2008, and Sam Lee in 2024.
Joanne has since launched three solo albums, Pulse of the Metropolis in 2005, After A
Dream in 2013, and Life, Interrupted in 2021. These albums are available for download
on all streaming platforms.
Among the awards Joanne has received include the The Outstanding Young Malaysian
Award 2004, Martell’s Rising Personality Award 2008, National Academic Award 2012,
BrandLaureate Grand Master Brand ICON Leadership Award 2017; and the
Professional Achievement Award by the British Council Study UK Alumni Awards 2021.
Joanne is also an accredited examiner for Trinity College London examination board,
having travelled to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, the Middle East and the
Asian continent since 2005. Presently, she is a consulting editor for Musicae Scientiae
journal and lectures as an Associate Professor at the Music Department of Universiti
Putra Malaysia.
A well-rounded musician whose passion for music extends to its many disciplines, Andrea
Sim has been the Music Director and Resident Conductor of the klpac String Orchestra since
2021 and was appointed conductor of the Bentley Music Academy Discovery Orchestra in
2024.
As a violinist, Andrea has led as concertmaster for the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth
Orchestra (MPYO), UCSI University Orchestra, and klpac Orchestra. She has also performed
with ensembles such as the National Symphony Orchestra, Kamerata Kuala Lumpur, Kuala
Lumpur City Opera Orchestra, Yin Qi Festival Orchestra, Selangor Symphony Orchestra, and
the Vienna Young Artist Orchestra. As a soloist, she has been invited to perform with the
klpac Orchestra and MPYO.
Passionate about education, Andrea has coached and given violin masterclasses to the
National Symphony Orchestra’s Genius Seni Muzik violin section and the Galaxy Chamber
Orchestra. She has also been invited to adjudicate the Perfect Tone Violin Competition in
Indonesia.
Andrea studied violin performance in Vienna’s Prayner Konservatorium and holds a Master
of Music from UCSI University, where she studied on a full scholarship. She currently serves
as an adjunct violin lecturer at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
An avid writer, Andrea has written articles for the Global Musicians League, and programme
notes for recitals in Malaysia and abroad.
